IRIS has segmentation guidelines to ensure a consistent road network.
These can be broken into four core areas
- Road
- Intersections
- Elements
- Inventory
Road
The is a simple representation of the road from start to end.
Segment Rules:
- Start
- End
Intersections (Nodes)
All real intersections and nodes in the network.
Segment Rules:
- Junction Left
- Junction Right
- Cross Road
- T -Junction
- Roundabout
- Thru Junction (LGA Boundary crossing)
- Element Node
Element
Roads elements are used to make a symbolic representation of the road network.
Elements must have a unique "road number" / "element sequence number" pairs.
Segment Rules:
- Start
- Intersection
- Carriageway split (single to dual carriageway)
- End
Inventory
Road inventory represents the actual seal and pavement changes in the road network.
Segment Rules:
- Start
- Carriageway split (single to dual carriageway)
- Seal change i.e Asphalt to Brick paving
- Width change i.e. 5.2m to 6.3m
- Kerbing change i.e. no kerbing to barrier kerbing
- End
